Studio Ghibli has released a new US trailer for Isao Takahata’s stunning looking new film The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.

The film is Takahata’s first film since 1999’s My Neighbors the Yamadas, and is based on the Japanese folktale The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.  Found inside a shining stalk of bamboo by an old bamboo cutter and his wife, a tiny girl grows rapidly into an exquisite young lady. The mysterious young princess enthralls all who encounter her – but ultimately she must confront her fate, the punishment for her crime.

James Caan, Mary Steenburgen, and Chloë Grace Moretz provide the English language voices, but as with all Ghibli you should watch the original version if possible.

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya is out now in the US, but has no Irish release date as of yet.
