One of the more interesting upcoming Irish television productions that will soon be heading our way is the Gerard Barrett produced 3 part mini-series Smalltown. Below is the poster for the series, which will air on TV3 from September 1st.
The series stars Pat Shortt as a father and farmer in rural Ireland dealing with his two sons, the rigors of farm work and a sick wife. One of his sons, Conor, is a twenty-something who is forced to emigrate to London for a better life. Years later he returns home, expecting things to be the same but a lot has changed. Audiences will spend a few days with him as he tries to answer the question many of his generation ask themselves: where do I belong, home or away?
In addition to Shortt the series stars Charlie Kelly (Clean Break, The Secret Scripture), Pauline O’Driscoll (Staccato, There’s Something About Patrick), Stephen O’Leary (A Glimpse), Sean Fox(Jimmy’s Hall, RAW), Rose O’Loughlin (Casualty, Doctors), Barry Barnes (Veronica Guerin, Kings), Saffron Hocking (Pitcairn), Gina Moxley (The Butcher Boy), Ewen Macintosh (The Office, Little Britain), Julie Sharkey (Death Of A Superhero, The Runaway), Muiris Crowley (Pilgrim Hill, Vikings), and Kieran Boland (Strawberry).
Pilgrim Hill and Glassland director Barrett is on a roll at the moment, with his latest film Brain on Fire premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival. He is the creative force behind Smalltown, writing, directing and producing. Cormac Dowling co-wrote episodes 2 and 3, with Gra?inne O’Sullivan executive producing for Blank Page Productions. The soundtrack comes from celebrated Irish composer Patrick Cassidy, with Dave Grennan as DoP, Martha Meyler as editor, and casting by Amy Rowan. Post production was carried out at Screen Scene in Dublin.
Smalltown airs on TV3 on airs on September 1st, 8th, and 15th at 10pm each night.
