Dylan Townsend, the co-creator of Hipsterverse, has sold the 8 part short form series to TAG. The channel which launched Mid May and run by Multimedia company Docler Media, is airing new emerging content on Sonifi to 1.4million hotels worldwide and will launch the series on Dish network to its subscribers across America from July 1st.
Hipsterverse was shot in Vancouver by Townsend during his time on RTE 2 show Exiles: Vancouver. After it being pitched to US networks during 2015, the series has now found a home and will be licensed on multiple carriers during the 12 month license agreement.
The series stars Michael Coleman (Once Upon a Time) and is guest directed by Aisha Tyler (Archer, Criminal Minds). The idea for Hipsterverse was original conceived by three Irish writers, Dylan Townsend, David Laurence Quinn, and Fergal O’Byrne. Townsend brought the concept to Vancouver and produced, directed and wrote the series with co-creator Michael Coleman.
Speaking about the concept, Townsend commented:
It’s been a big dream to make a project that poked fun at the ridiculous stuff that our millennial generation get up to. It’s not really about hipsters per se, but more a comedic social commentary on my generation. I’m delighted for the series to find a home over the pond. This is a culmination of two and half years work and looks like only the beginning of the series.
Now living between Vancouver and Los Angeles. Dylan has just written and produced a short film with actress Bronagh Waugh (The Fall) as lead, and will be directed by Miles Forster (Exiles: Vancouver). The short, titled Heart Overheard, is currently in production and will be submitted to film festivals during 2016. Gallagher travelled to Vancouver in April and together with Townsend crafted a story about a women’s internal dialogue, and how the mind is so often at odds with the heart in many of our day to day interactions.
