After 10 years and 18 films, it has all come down to this Avengers: Infinity War the beginning of the end. Has it been worth the wait?
Avengers: Infinity War is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with a screenplay by the writing team of Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and features an ensemble cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Josh Brolin, and Chris Pratt.
Without going into spoiler territory because that’s the society we live in now the events of Avengers: Infinity War centre around Thanos and his quest for the Infinity Stones so that he can bring balance to the universe.
It’s been 6 years since The Avengers hit our screens and became one of the biggest comic book films of all time and when everything had come to a close audiences were teased of something bigger and badder on the horizon and that was in the terrifying shape of the mad titan Thanos (Brolin). Now after several films with Thanos being glimpsed at more and more audiences finally get to see what this guy is all about in Avengers: Infinity War. He’s brilliant and this is all down to Brolin’s spectacular acting and the motivation that the Russo brothers gave him in the film. I’ve always thought that in the Marvel films that they did a lot of things right but what they failed at what was their villains. They were never memorable and paled in comparison to their heroic counterparts.
This time around though Thanos is an entity unto himself, the heroes he encounters along the way to the completion of his goal are simply obstacles in his way. Along with the compelling journey of Thanos every character in Infinity War gets their moment to shine. The direction the Russo brothers have decided to go with is to split the whole cast up into factions dealing with Thanos in their own way. There are some teams that work better than others but all and all they’re pretty fantastic. Getting to see all these heroes converge together at various points throughout the film feels gratifying in a way that only an event like this can for their fans.
Couple this with the incredible performances every member of this cast are giving and there will not be a dry eye in the house at certain points throughout Avengers: Infinity War. There’s also the technical aspects of Infinity War that really floored this longtime fan. The score has now evolved to a point that anybody who has been watching the MCU since the beginning will feel a sense of nostalgia as this may be the end for many of their favourite characters. There’s also the unbelievable action set pieces that litter the film, they never felt tiresome instead simply rising in quality and intensity.
With the arrival of Thanos the MCU is shaken to its very core and nothing will ever be the same again. With powerful performances, an incredible villain and intense action Avengers: Infinity War is the event of the year.
