The Guard captures US distributors

Only a few days ago The Guard was winning admirers after being unveiled at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, now Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the US and Latin American rights to the film. This is a very positive development for the film as Sony Pictures Classics has a great track record with smaller films and are sure to bring the movie to a larger audience.

Directed by John Michael McDonagh, The Guard has a strong cast, which includes Brendan Gleeson, Don Cheadle, Fionnuala Flanagan, Liam Cunningham and Mark Strong.

The Guard is a thriller-comedy set on the west coast of Ireland where Sergeant Gerry Boyle (Gleeson) is a small-town cop with a confrontational personality, a subversive sense of humour, a dying mother, a fondness for prostitutes, and absolutely no interest whatsoever in the international cocaine-smuggling ring that has brought FBI agent Wendell Everett (Cheadle)to his door.

Irish audiences will get an opportunity to see The Guard in cinemas when it goes on theatrical release this summer through Element Pictures Distribution.
