Irish Abroad: A Nightingale Falling heads to the American Film Market

Screendaily is reporting that 7 & 7 Producers’ Sales Service will begin sales of Garret Daly and Martina McGlynn’s Irish feature film A Nightingale Falling at the American Film Market from today.

The independently financed and distributed film recently completed a successful six-week cinematic release at venues across Ireland, which saw it recoup most of its original shooting budget.

The AFM is one of the premier global marketplaces, focusing on networking, distribution, and production. Participants from more than 70 countries attend the market, including acquisition and development executives, agents, directors, distributors, festival directors, financiers, film commissioners, producers, and writers.

A Nightingale Falling is a historical period drama set in Ireland during the War of Independence, and tells the story of two sisters who, against the backdrop of war, take in a wounded British soldier, causing tension within and a fear of discovery from without. What follows is a moving and elegant story of love, loss, passion, and betrayal.

The film is based on the novel by PJ Curtis, and stars Tara Breathnach, Muireann Bird, and Gerard McCarthy headlining. The film also stars Elliot Moriarty, Brian Fortune, Andy Kellegher, Rosemary Henderson, Michael James Ford, Mark Tankersley, Blathniad Purcell, and Maura Clancy.

Speaking about the sales process Maura Ford of 7 & 7 said: “This beautiful 1920s period romance has a look reminiscent of Downton Abbey with an Irish backdrop of civil war and a twist in the tail. This blend has brought strong interest from the US and I’m confident AFM is the perfect market to launch it to a wider audience.”
