Smurf’s up? Sorry couldn’t help it, they’re actually making The Smurfs movie. More bewildering than that is the fact that it’s not completely animated but rather a Roger Rabbit/Enchanted type mash-up of live action and animation. And here’s the teaser!
Right then…Gargamel is human, and he’s played by Hank Azaria, who has undergone a lot of prostechic work. The Smurfs are CGI and voiced by, amongst others, Katy Perry, Anton Yelchin, Alan Gumming, BJ Novak, Jonathan Winters and The Daily Show’s John Oliver. And it has Neil Patrick Harris…so that makes it cool right?
Based on the iconic characters of my childhood, themselves the creation of a Belgian cartoonist Peyo, the Smurfs are an almost entirely male, all blue group of basically dwarf-like creatures. There is a token female called Smurfette who was invented by Gargamel…ah just see Donnie Darko for further info.
This is just going to be weird.
