The Morning Report – Trailer Edition

The Twilight Saga: New Moon is due out in cinemas November 20th and, to whet the appetite further on already rabid fans, the producers have released a new trailer. This new clip features heroine Bella (Kirsten Stewart) confronting the La Push gang in the belief that they have taken her friend Jacob (Taylor Lautner). Sadly for girls everywhere it doesn’t feature Robert Pattinson but it does have a bunch of oiled and shirtless men turning into giant wolves.

I’m not a particularly huge fan of Twilight as I believe that it plays down and panders to its audience, while slighting the existing strong line of vampire movies, books and television shows. Give me Buffy anyday.—————————-

An odd video appeared on-line yesterday for Chicago director Rob Marshall’s latest effort Nine. Not quite a trailer, not really behind the scenes footage, they are calling it a rehearsal montage. What it actually is is a really cool collection of clips showing some of cinemas finest actresses and Daniel Day Lewis getting ready to take the box-office by storm.

The movie itself is a musical drama based on Federico Fellini’s 8 1/2 and pretty much stars every Oscar winner and nominee still alive. Daniel Day-Lewis is the Italian film director Guido who is facing a mid-life crisis that starts him reflecting on his relationships with his wife (Marion Cotillard), mistress (Penelope Cruz), confidante (Judi Dench), muse (Nicole Kidman), mother (Sophia Loren), prostitute he met years before (Stacey “Fergie” Ferguson) and a nosy reporter (Kate Hudson).

Nine is set to be released on Christmas Day.

Another movie arriving this Christmas is Guy Ritchie’s imaginative new take on Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr. as the titular detective and Jude Law as his accomplice Watson. The film is set in 1891 and revolves around the central pair stopping a conspiracy to destroy Britain. Rachel McAdams plays Irene Adler, a femme fatale from New Jersey who once outwitted Holmes, while Mark Strong is cast as the central villain of the piece Lord Blackwood.

The new TV trailer, which clocks in at an impressive two minutes thirty, shows a more action-packed and gritty Sherlock Holmes than what we have become accustomed to. Some purists are up in arms about the new direction but personally I was as giddy as a school-girl when I first clapped eyes on RDJ’s sardonic and witty portrayal. Can not wait!
