It’s getting slammed by critics, but before the movie makes it on to our screens so that you can judge for yourselves, Paramount Pictures has released the first five minutes of Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones online.
Featuring Ireland’s Saoirse Ronan and based on the critically acclaimed best-selling novel by Alice Sebold this movie should be brilliant. Especially considering that Jackson helmed the quite brilliant Heavenly Creatures but with the movie languishing at 36% on Rotten Tomatoes things don’t look so good.
The story centres on a young girl, Susie Salmon, who has been murdered and watches over her family – and her killer – from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal.
The 5 minute clip all takes place before Susie ascends to heaven, or the in-between, and the movie descends into colourful whimsy. It’s a strong piece of cinema which sources say the rest of the movie doesn’t match, so it’s not surprising that Paramount have chosen to release it given the critical pasting and bad press surrounding the movie.
