Orlando Bloom is set to star in director Lance Daly’s forthcoming indie drama The Good Doctor. Michael Pena, Troy Garity, Courtney Ford, Taraji P. Henson, Rob Morrow and J.K. Simmons are all in negotiations to co-star.
The story, from Veronica Mars scribe John Enbom, focuses on a young doctor who is eager to impress his colleagues. A new patient takes to him and begins to give him the esteem he so clearly craves, causing the good doctor to tamper with her treatment in order to keep her around.
Bloom will play the title character, with Pena an orderly who discovers the doctor’s budding relationship and blackmails him for prescription painkillers. Garity will play the brilliant, confident, successful doctor Bloom wishes to be, while Ford plays a woman with intentions on Bloom.
It will be very interesting to see if Bloom can pull a realistic, proper dramatic turn as he is usually reduced to wallpaper, scenery distracting roles á la Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings.
