Super 8 gets a Superbowl spot and synopsis

One thing that the Superbowl is good for (if you are not a fan of the actual football) is TV spots for movies soon to be released, and this year’s crop is really rather good. The highlights include the big summer blockbusters Thor, Captain America and Transformers – The Dark of the Moon, but the stand-out has to be Super 8.

This JJ Abrams directed sci-fi thriller is set in 1979 Lillian Heights, Ohio and centres on “three siblings who discover footage of an alien in some Super 8 footage they shot.”

The film stars Kyle Chandler, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Ryan Lee, Elle Fanning and Riley Griffiths, with Steven Spielberg attached as executive producer.

Paramount has also released the first synopsis for the movie so we can know a bit more about the plot. Not very much more thankfully as I feel the mystery is an essential element of the movie. It’s nice to have one once in a while that keeps us guessing.

Super 8 is released June 10th.

Synopsis:

The Paramount Pictures release is set in Ohio in 1979 and introduces a troupe of six youngsters who are using a Super 8 camera to make their own zombie movie. One fateful night, their project takes them to a lonely stretch of rural railroad tracks and, as the camera rolls, calamity strikes — a truck collides with an oncoming locomotive and a hellacious derailment fills the night with screaming metal and raining fire. Then something emerges from the wreckage, something decidedly inhuman.?
