Yesterday Scannain was invited to view the first 28 minutes (and 6 additional minutes) of JJ Abrams’ hotly anticipated sequel to 2009’s sci-fi spectacular Star Trek. Titled Star Trek Into Darkness the second outing of Captain Kirk’s Enterprise is a much darker affair with Kirk’s young crew embarking on a mission of vengeance against an enemy from within their own ranks.
To speak about what we witnessed would serve to spoil the film and in no way do we want to do that. But believe us when we tell that in Benedict Cumberbatch’s John Harrison Abrams has found a villain that will live long in the memory.
The pre-booking for the film opens this morning (April 9th) at 9:05am and we implore you to run at warp-speed to see this one. If you live in Dublin or can get there easily then by far the best option will be Cineworld‘s IMAX Screen 17. Yes it costs more but this film was meant to be seen on a giant screen with the best quality sound. And for once the 3D will be worth it!
Star Trek Into Darkness opens nationwide on May 9th.
In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes ‘Star Trek Into Darkness.’ When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
