John Malkovich is certainly very much in demand. Yesterday we reported that the star is set to play the Vulture in Sam Raimi’s fourth outing of Spider-Man. Today we can report that he has signed to star opposite Bruce Willis in “Red,” the all-star adaptation of the Wildstorm/DC Comics miniseries to be directed by Robert Schwenke.
Malkovich will play the role vacated by John C. Reilly, who left in December, as a retired CIA agent whose paranoid delusions lead him into teaming up with the lead character played by Bruce Willis. Willis’ character, also a retired black-ops agent must contend with a host of younger, faster assassins intent on taking him out.
So far the cast includes Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker, Julian McMahon, Richard Dreyfuss, Ernest Borgnine and Brian Cox. So there’s quite an ensemble of talent involved.
Malkovich’s casting couldn’t have come at a better time as principal photography is set to begin in Toronto this week.
