Out on the toon

So those lovely folks over at The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have unveiled the movies which are up for consideration in the Best Animated Picture category. Suffice to say that the 20 strong list represents pretty much the sum total of all animated movies released this year.

Frontrunners are bound to be Disney/Pixar’s computer animated adventure Up, Neil Gaiman adaptation Coraline, Wes Anderson’s The Fantastic Mr. Fox and Twentieth Century Fox’s Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Although knowing the Academy there could be a few surprise when he short-list is announced. Personally I’m hoping that Ireland’s own The Secret of Kells gets a nod. The full long-list is below and the five official nominations for the Oscar will be announced on February 2nd, 2010.
