Film District has released the first poster for Spike Lee’s adaptation of the manga comic Oldboy, previously brought brilliantly to life by Park Chan-wook. The poster depicts Josh Brolin’s titular character emerging from imprisonment to seek his revenge.
The film follows a man who after being kidnapped and held captive for 20 years with no explanation is suddenly set free and seeks revenge on his captors.
Brolin is joined by Sharlto Copley and Elizabeth Olsen in the film that no-one asked for, although in fairness Spike Lee is a good director so this has merit.
Oldboy is out in the US on October 25th, and in Ireland on December 6th.
Oldboy is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.
