If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results then Hollywood has clearly gone insane. The reason? Why they are about to make yet another video-game into a movie!
The multi-million selling, absolutely brilliant, space-based role-playing-game Mass Effect is set to be turned into a movie by Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. The game follows the intrepid Commander Shepard, leader of the Earth starship SSV Normandy who embarks on an epic adventure across the universe where he meets with hostile and friendly alien races while trying to find out who is behind the attack on a Earth colony and why?
The original game and its recent sequel rank among my absolute favourites and the storyline and universe would make for a great movie. One of the main problems that screenwriter Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend) will face is honing down the hours of gameplay and dialogue into a cohesive and interesting script.
Halo and Bioshock adaps have recently been shelved, meaning that the door is open for Mass Effect. With Prince of Persia showing that game adaps can be enjoyable lets just pray that Hollywood is finally turning the corner on these.
