The 86th Academy Awards ceremony took place in Hollywood over night and some of us diehards stayed up to watch the whole thing. Host Ellen DeGeneres did a passable job, and probably stole the show by tweeting a selfie of herself and a bunch of stars which has managed to get over 2.3 million retweets as of now. However awards shows are all about the awards and oftentimes about the controversy and the snubs.
This year we had a bunch of deserving winners with the Academy bestowing its highest honour Best Picture on Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave. Elsewhere Gravity swept the technical nominations on its way to taking home 7 golden baldies including Alfonso Cuarón for Best Director. While it’s a shame not to see Leo or the Fass picking up awards there were no surprises in the acting categories with Matthew McConaughey winning Best Actor, Cate Blanchett Best Actress, Jared Leto Best Supporting Actor, and Lupita Nyong’o Best Supporting Actress.
As for our predictions, we went 20 for 24, with the Best Live Action Short, Animated Short, Editing, and Costume Design besting us.
