Hayao Miyazaki three years ago retired from direction, and the world wept. To be fair, this was not the first time he had retired, but it felt like the last. After all Hayao Miyazaki deserves to rest, he has been instrumental in shaping the minds of artists around the world for decades. However, much like spoilt children, we all screamed in defiance, “Don’t leave us Hayao Miyazaki we love you.” It now seems after three long years our prayers have been answered.
Hayao Miyazaki is returning to direct a new feature film. The reason being that the work he’s been doing at the Ghibli museum has given him that creative itch to once again return to filmmaking. The world can rejoice once more with something good happening in 2016. Now to temper your expectations, the film has not been officially greenlit, but that hasn’t stopped Miyazaki from beginning his work on the feature film. He plans on creating storyboards for about 100 cuts of footage.
On a personal note this is amazing, I have been inspired by the work of Miyazaki since I was a youngster in secondary school and can’t wait to see what he brings to the table in this latest feature.
