More news from the world of the Green Lantern with details emerging that Peter Sarsgaard is set to play the villain Dr. Hector Hammond, in Martin Campbell’s new feature.
Hammond is the pathologist son of a senator who is seen as a disappointment in his father’s eyes. After discovering a meteor he becomes infused with psychic powers.
No word on whether big bad, Sinestro, is set to feature, but rumours to date have Watchmen star, and forthcoming new Freddy Kreuger, Jackie Earle Haley in line for the role.
The inclusion of Hammond fits perfectly if the movie wishes to follow Geoff Johns’ graphic novel Green Lantern: Secret Origin. In this story Sinestro appears, but not as the main villain, allowing for a much bigger part in the inevitable sequel.
Shooting is set to start in Louisiana in March for the summer 2011 release, with Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, and Blake Lively as his love interest Carol Ferris.
