The Guardian have a “world exclusive” look at the first trailer for Truman Show director Peter Weir’s The Way Back, which stars Colin Farrell and Saoirse Ronan.
The movie which is based on Slavomir Rawicz’s memoir The Long Walk: The True Story of a Trek to Freedom tells the story of seven prisoners, who in 1941, escaped a Soviet labor camp in Yakutsk, and marched thousands of miles by foot, out of Siberia, through China, the Gobi Desert, Tibet, and over the Himalayas to India. And you thought The Lord of the Rings had a long walk…
In addition to the two Irish stars the strong cast features Mark Strong, Jim Sturgess and Weir veteran Ed Harris. Weir has proven himself adept at bringing true stories to life in a gripping manner with Gallipoli and Witness, so this should be a winner.
The movie has been given a UK release date of December 26th, so expect to see it in Irish cinemas around the same time.
