Deadline is reporting that Dublin actor Domhnall Gleeson has signed one to play one of the founders of satirical magazine National Lampoon for Netflix’s A Futile And Stupid Gesture.
Gleeson is set to star alongside Will Forte in the film, which will tell the story of the founding of the magazine, which went on to become synonymous with comedy filmmaking in the 70’s and 80’s. Gleeson will play Henry Beard, who along with Doug Kenney (Forte) and Robert Hoffman started the magazine in 1970.
David Wain will direct A Futile And Stupid Gesture, which Michael Colton and John Aboud adapted from Josh Karp’s book of the same title. Peter Principato and Jonathan Stern produce.
Four of Gleeson’s most recent films Ex Machina, The Revenant, Brooklyn and Star Wars: The Force Awakens featured heavily at the Oscars. He can next be seen in the Doug Liman-directed Mena with Tom Cruise, before returning as General Hux in Star Wars: Epidode VIII. He is represented in Ireland by The Agency’s Karl Hayden.
