With Deepest Sympathy: Joan Rivers (1933 – 2014)

The legendary funny girl Joan Rivers has died aged 81, following a heart attack due to complications during an operation on her vocal chords. Known for her quick wit, sharp tongue and lack of giving a damn, Joan worked for decades in both television and movies.

Writing and presenting NBC’s The Tonight Show for over 20 years made her a household name, from the 1960s onwards. She went on to present iconic shows like the Emmys, the Grammys and the Tonys. She also had her own show, The Joan Rivers Show, for 2 years, and most recently presented the show Fashion Police. She was also known for a lot of her comedy scetches on shows such as NBC’s Saturday Night Live and The American Comedy Awards.

In movies, she had roles in movies such as the classic Star Wars spoof Spaceballs by legendary filmmaker Mel Brooks, Shrek 2 and Iron Man 3, either voicing or playing a character, or appearing as herself.

We at Scannain send our condolences to Joan’s family and friends, may she rest in peace.
