Conan director Marcus Nispel has found his Barbarian for the forthcoming re-imaging of Robert E. Howard’s iconic series of books. That man is Stargate Atlantis actor Jason Momoa.

Latino Review is also citing that producers have put out a call to Mickey Rourke to play Conan’s father Corin.

Conan the Barbarian
is a well known figure in American fantasy and his adventures, which have featured in books, comics and film occur in the fictional “Hyborian Age,” set after the destruction of Atlantis and before the rise of the known ancient civilisations. Of course most people will be familiar with the Arnold Schwarzenegger film version of the tale, which was released in 1982 and it’s disappointing sequel Conan the Destroyer from 1984.

The movie is scheduled to start shooting in Bulgaria on March 15, for a 2011 release.
