Cannes – Thai film wins Palme D’Or

So Cannes is over for another year and many will look back on 2010 as one of the lesser years of the festival. Whether it was the recession, or the lack of any “big” movie but there was definitely something missing from the Croisette this year.

The top prize, the coveted Palme D’Or, went to Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, a movie long on title but rich in imagery and style. The Thai film about a man dying of kidney failure, features the ghost of catfish and monkeys, and it’s Terry Gillam-esque qualities are sure to have caught the eye of Jury Chair Tim Burton, himself a little on the crazy side.

Festival darlings Javier Bardem and Juliette Binoche picked up teh acting gongs, for their roles in Biutiful and Certified Copy respectively.
