Axis

US star Aisha Tyler to direct Irish actor Emmett Hughes’ scripted feature Axis

Currently crowd-funding on Kickstarter is an interesting new project from US star Aisha Tyler. Called Axis, the film will mark the Criminal Minds star’s feature film debut. The Irish connection in this comes from actor and writer Emmett Hughes, who penned the script and will star as the lead.

Hughes plays Tristan Blake. a successful actor who nearly destroyed his life through punishing addiction, he has gotten sober, salvaged his relationship and career, mended his connections with family, and is trying with all his might to reclaim his life.

Much like the Tom Hardy starring Locke, the action in Axis will all take place in a car, but instead of a motorway in England it will be through the greater Los Anageles area.

Due to the nature of the film all of the supporting cast will provide voices only. This cast includes Irish stars Paula Malcomson, Bronagh Waugh, Stephen Morrissey, and Fionn William O’Brien. The cast also features Emily Bett Rickards (Arrow), Kirsten Vangsness (Criminal Minds), Jerry Ferrara (Entourage), and Amber Nash (Archer), as well as Tyler herself.

Should the Kickstarter suceed the plan is to start shooting Axis for nine days in Los Angeles in June.

Because we have such limited time, the lead actor is learning and rehearsing the entire film like one would a play, and that’s how we’ll shoot it. He’s the only actor on screen for much of the film so this thing will live and die by how prepared he is. We’re in rehearsals now and plan to shoot first week of June. Aisha Tyler, Director

Tyler is no stranger to working with Irish talent, having directed a short film called Ar Scáth le Chéile in Galway late last year. This short which also stars Hughes, will screen at the Newport Beach Film Festival on April 24th.
