Oscars 2010 -Full list of nominees

The nominations for the 2010 Oscars are in and it’s a good year for Irish animation. Animated movies from this fair isle are represented in both the Animated Feature category, with The Secret of Kells, and the Animated Short category, with Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty. Also up, on the Irish front,  for Short Live Action Film is The Door, a short from Octagon Films, and Peter J Devlin and Richard Banehan for their work on Star Trek and Avatar respectively.

James Cameron’s Avatar and Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker lead the nominations with 9 apiece and there is little surprising in the overall list of nominations with those that have fared well during awards season being well represented. Critic and fan favourite Moon is a notable absentee from the list of nominees, despite heavy internet campaigning to get it included.

Sandra Bullock is still in with the chance of picking up an Oscar and Razzie in the same year as she has been nominated as Best Actress for her role in The Blind Side, which also picked up a somewhat unexpected Best Picture nominee. With 10 movies up for Best Picture the Academy have also found room for Disney-Pixar’s Up, which is also in the running for Best Animated Feature.

I will shortly be doing my predictions in each category so stay tuned for that.
