Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for “visionary” director M. Night Shyamalan‘s After Earth.
The film follows a father and son who crash land on an inhospitable future Earth where the young boy must learn to fight after his father is seriously injured.
Real-life father and son Will and Jaden Smith carry on the familial bond here, with support from Zoe Kravitz, Sophie Okonedo, and Isabelle Fuhrman. Will this mark the long awaited return-to-form for Shyamalan or be another in an increasingly long-line of over-hyped underwhelming cinematic experiences? Traffic scribe Stephen Gaghan and The Book of Eli‘s writer Gary Whitta on the screenplay suggest the former but it’s hard to have confidence.
After Earth enters cinemas on June 7th.
A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.
