2011 Oscar Nominations are in

The 2011 Oscar nominations are in, and as usual there are a few pleasant surprises and disappointments. The King’s Speech leads the nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards with 12, followed closely by True Grit with 10. Other favourites The Kids Are All Right, The Fighter and The Social Network are also heavily nominated.

My initial reaction is to notice that there is no Best Director nomination for  Christopher Nolan. I’m not shocked, just disappointed. It’s nice to See Rick Baker back among the nominees for his work on The Wolfman. Seriously who thought The Wolfman would be up for any Oscars?

It’s fantastic to see Irish short film The Crush nominated for Live Action Short. After the animated success of Granny O’Grimm and The Secret of Kells last year it’s important that Ireland be represented on the big night.

The 83rd Academy Awards take place in Hollywood on February 27th.
