The Writers Guild of Ireland has announced the nominees for the 2019 ZeBBie Awards. The ZeBBie Awards are annual awards created by the WGI — named in honour of O. Z. Whitehead — to acknowledge the best script(s) written by Irish playwrights and screenwriters during the previous year.
The Dig, written by Stuart Drennan; Black ’47, written by PJ Dillon, Pierce Ryan, Eugene O’Brien (and Lance Daly); and Float Like A Butterfly, written by Carmel Winters compete for Best Feature Film Script, while Five Letters to the Stranger Who Will Dissect My Brain, written by Oonagh Kearney; I Didn’t..I Wasn’t..I Amn’t, written by Laoisa Sexton; and Boy Saint, written by Tom Speers compete for Best Short Film Script.
Absolutely honoured to be nominated amongst such incredible writers. PJ Dillon and myself began writing this project more than ten years ago, it’s been a long road to get here and everyone involved is delighted to receive this recognition. Pierce Ryan, Screenwriter – Black ’47
To be nominated for anything is an honour but to be recognised by my peers, amongst such talented company, is really very humbling. Writing a great screenplay is a team effort and I’d like to thank my producer Brian J. Falconer, directors Andy and Ryan Tohill, Ursula Devine and Steve Brooks of Northern Ireland Screen and Story and Script Editor Katie Boyles.
Stuart Drennan, Screenwriter – The Dig
This year there are two new awards: Animation and Continuing Drama. Members will read all the nominated scripts and cast their votes.
The 2019 ZeBBie Awards will take place on Wednesday, 19th June in Dublin and will be hosted by Senator David Norris.
