Irish Abroad: You’re Ugly Too to represent Ireland at 28th AFI European Union Film Showcase

The 28th American Film Institute European Union Film Showcase will take place in Washington DC from December 1st to 20th. Ireland will be represented in the line-up by Mark Noonan’s heart-warming drama You’re Ugly Too.

You’re Ugly Too tells the story of Will, a man newly released from prison on compassionate leave to care for his orphaned niece, Stacey. Journeying to the Irish mid-lands, the two attempt to set-up home and start a new life. Unfortunately Will’s efforts at being a father figure prove disastrous as he desperately tries to avoid finding himself back in prison and Stacey does her best to understand what’s going on without letting her guard slip.

The multi-award-winning film features acclaimed performances from Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones) and newcomer Lauren Kinsella (Albert Nobbs). You’re Ugly Too was produced by John Keville and Conor Barry for Savage Productions and was filmed in counties Dublin and Offaly. The film was funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board.

You’re Ugly Too is currently available to rent or buy on DVD nationwide from retailers (HMV/Xtravision, Tesco, Tower Records, Golden Discs, IFI Store) or online via elementpictures.ie, and On Demand from Volta, iTunes, and Virgin Media.

The showcase brings the best in European cinema to Washington audiences. This year’s selection of more than 50 films includes international film festival award winners, European box–office hits and debut works by promising new talents, plus many countries’ official Oscar® submissions for Best Foreign Language Film.
