The official trailer of The Young Offenders has been launched ahead of the comedy’s nationwide cinema release on September 16th with previews on September 10th and 11th.
Inspired by Ireland’s biggest cocaine seizure of €440 million off the coast of Cork in 2007, The Young Offenders follows two Cork inner-city teenagers, Conor and Jock, as they embark on a 160km road trip on stolen bikes in the hopes of finding an unrecovered bale of cocaine.
The debut feature from Peter Foott, the laugh-out-loud comedy stars Cork natives Chris Walley and Alex Murphy as well as well-known comedians PJ Gallagher (Naked Camera) and Hilary Rose (The Republic of Telly).
Since its world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh last month where it shared the Best Irish Feature Film award it’s been receiving praise from critics and audiences alike. It received a standing ovation last week when it played to a home audience in Cork and is scheduled to have its Dublin premiere on September 8th.
The film was shot in some of the most iconic locations around Cork city and along the Wild Atlantic Way last summer and was produced with funding from the Irish Film Board.
The Young Offenders will open in the majority of Irish cinemas making it the widest release of an Irish film so far this year. The Dublin premiere will take place on Thursday 8th September. Previews will take place all over the country on Saturday/Sunday 10th and 11th September.
The film will be released nationwide on Friday 16th September.
