The Young Offenders

#IrishFilm: The Young Offenders to hit cinemas in September, after premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh

Two pieces of news for Peter Foott’s new Irish comedy The Young Offenders. The first is that the film will have its world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh this July. The second is that that premiere will be followed by the film’s release in cinemas nationwide in September via Wildcard Distribution.

Inspired by Ireland’s biggest cocaine seizure of €440 million off the coast of Cork in 2007, The Young Offenders directed by first-time feature director Peter Foott, follows two Cork inner-city teenagers as they embark on a 160km road trip on stolen bikes in the hopes of finding some unrecovered bales.

The film introduces new talents Chris Walley and Alex Murphy and co-stars the stand-up comedian PJ Gallagher (Naked Camera) and Hilary Rose (Republic of Telly).

Speaking about the release, Foott said

I’m delighted The Young Offenders is getting such a big release later this summer. I had the pleasure of working with some of the funniest actors in the country and I can’t wait for audiences to see them on screen.

Foott is no stranger to comedy as he is an award-winning director on the Republic of Telly who also directed The Rubber Bandits infamous Horse Outside video.

The film was shot in some of the most iconic locations around Cork city and along the Wild Atlantic Way last summer.

The Galway Film Fleadh takes place from July 5th to 10th.
