On Wednesday October 21st, Panti Bliss is set to delight Irish cinema goers when the eagerly awaited documentary film The Queen of Ireland premieres at Dublin’s Light House Cinema, followed by a live Q&A with star Rory O’Neill, hosted by Brendan Courtney. The Q&A will also feature special guests Antony Cotton, Pauline McLynn, and Katherine Lynch.
The Q&A will be broadcast by satellite to audiences at cinemas all across Ireland, and questions will be taken via Twitter and from the live audience at the Light House Cinema. Tickets for this exclusive live event are available online. The film goes on general release from October 23rd.
Critical reaction to The Queen of Ireland has been very positive:
The Queen of Ireland is essential viewing. Impossibly moving, it chronicles the story of how Ireland learned to stop worrying and love its own people. A Triumph.

A perfectly captured documentary that shows Panti in the spotlight and behind the scenes, in the year she became the symbol of Ireland’s march towards marriage equality.
The film is directed by film-maker and photographer Conor Horgan (One Hundred Mornings, Deep End Dance, The Beholder) and builds up a multi-faceted picture of a complex and compelling character through behind the scenes footage, archive, music and interviews with friends, peers and protégés.
The Queen of Ireland is produced by Katie Holly and Ailish Bracken for Blinder Films, with funding from Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board and RTÉ. It opens in the below cinemas nationwide and tickets can be booked online.
