Deadline is reporting that X-Men writer and producer Simon Kinberg has joined Irish director Ruairi Robinson’s new science-fiction film The Leviathan as producer. Neill Blomkamp is also joining as executive producer.
The film, which Robinson released an epic teaser for last week, is based on a script from screenwriter Jim Uhls (Fight Club), and follows futuristic astronauts harvesting exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen.
That teaser has already clocked up over 1.2 million views on Vimeo and hundreds of thousands more on YouTube.
A successful commercials and short film director and animator, Robinson was Oscar-nominated for his 2001 short Fifty Percent Grey.
Kinberg has a first-look deal in place with Fox so that’s potential studio backing right there. The Irish Film Board has given development funding to the projects, with Nick Ryan, Robbie Ryan and Billy O’Brien of Irish production company Floodland Pictures on-board.
