Irish Film: Jason and Glen Barry wrap shooting on US based short The American Dream

Irish brothers Jason and Glen Barry have just wrapped up shooting on their new short film, The American Dream, and
the film is already finding favour. The film has been shortlisted for the Louisiana Film Prize, after candidates were whittled down from 105 entries to the Top 20. The winner of the prize gets $50,000, making it one of the largest cash prizes for a short film in the world.

The film, which stars the pair, as well as been written by both, was directed by Love/Hate star Jason, with filming taking place across Louisiana.

Talking to the Evening Herald Jason, described the film as “A very personal film to me. It’s about a guy who has struggles with his family and difficulties with his ex-wife. He’s gone through a divorce which is very difficult with kids involved. I hope that people relate to the characters and believe what they’re looking at because it came from a real place.”

Brother Glen, who appeared alongside Julie Walters in The Return, added “We all see families fall apart and I believe it’s our job as artists to create something that people can relate to.”

Irish actress Charlene Gleeson, who appeared in the brothers short 100 Degrees, and who will next be seen in the Luke Evans starring Dracula: Untold, alongside Glen, is onboard here as Lorna. A.J. Raitano, who worked on the visual effects for The Dark Knight Rises, The Aviator and Shutter Island, is lensing the film as cinematographer.
