#IrishTalent: Colm Meaney joins cast of Tolkien, written by David Gleeson

Deadline is reporting that Irish star Colm Meaney has been cast in Dome Karukoski’s Tolkien, which is written by Irish screenwriter David Gleeson.

Meaney will play Father Francis in the biopic of the famous British author. Nicholas Hoult plays Tolkien, a lovelorn soldier, who draws from an epic life on his return from the Great War to create one of the greatest works of literature in “The Lord of the Rings”. Lily Collins will play Edith Braff, his wife and muse, who was the inspiration for his fictional characters Lúthien Tinúviel and Arwen Evenstar.

Fox Searchlight and Chernin Entertainment will produce Tolkien alongside Kris Thykier.

Meaney was recently seen in Conor McDermottroe’s Halal Daddy and Nick Hamm’s The Journey.

David Gleeson, who directed Cowboys and Angels (2003) and The Front Line (2006), has his latest directorial outing Don’t Let Go currently in post-production at EGG.
