Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan is in final negotiations to join the cast of Otto Bathurst’s Robin Hood: Origins.
Dornan will star as Will Scarlett, joining fellow Irish star Eve Hewson, who will play Maid Marian, his wife and love interest for the titular outlaw. Taron Egerton portrays Robin, with Jamie Foxx as Little John.
This version of the famous tale sees Robin Hood as a soldier who returns home from the Crusades only to find his beloved Sherwood Forest has been overrun by corruption and evil. He puts together a band of outlaws to fight back, to rob from the rich and give to the poor.
The news comes shortly after Dornan agreed to star in Emma Forrest’s Untogether, with Ben Mendelsohn, Jemima Kirke, and Lola Kirke. Production will begin on Robin Hood: Origins in Budapest next January. Dornan can currently be seen on Irish screens in World War II thriller Anthropoid with Cillian Murphy, and in Richie Smyth’s The Siege of Jadotville, which was released in cinemas yesterday via Element Pictures Distribution. He will appear again on small-screens when Northern Irish series The Fall returns for series 3 at the end of the month.
Robin Hood: Origins is being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio‘s Appian Way and Safehouse Pictures for Lionsgate.
