#IrishTalent: Irish director Ciarán Foy’s Eli acquired by Netflix

Collider is reporting that Netflix has acquired Irish director Ciarán Foy’s new horror, Eli, from Paramount Pictures. The streaming giant plans to release the film in 2019.

The film follows a young boy who undergoes treatment for his rare disease in a secluded clinic, which becomes a haunted prison. David Chirchirillo wrote the original script, which was featured on the 2015 Black List. It has since been revised by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing.

Eli stars Charlie Shotwell in the title role, supported by Lili Taylor, Sadie Sink, Kelly Reilly, and Max Martini.

Eli is produced by Trevor Macy for Intrepid, John Zaozirny for Bellevue Productions, with David O’Leary co-producing.  Matt Alvarez executive produces and Melinda Nishioka will also co-produce for Intrepid.

I’ve had a lot of really good experiences with genre material on Netflix and I’m really proud for them to have this movie,” said Macy, who has a long history with the streaming service, having produced the Mike Flanagan films Hush, Before I Wakeand Gerald’s Game, as well as the hit series The Haunting of Hill House. The success of that series (and Stranger Things) really illustrates how genre material has thrived on Netflix. We’re super excited to be working with Netflix and know they’ll make excellent partners. I can’t wait for everyone to see what a great film Ciarán has made and the amazing performances of the actors.
