Irish actor Brian Gleeson has been cast in Neil Marshall’s reboot of Hellboy. The Dublin-born actor will play the wizard Merlin.
Gleeson joins David Harbour, Ian McShane, Milla Jovovich, Sasha Lane, Penelope Mitchell, and Daniel Dae Kim, as well as fellow new additions Sophie Okonedo and Alistair Petrie.
The film sees Hellboy (Harbour) come to England, where he must defeat Merlin’s consort Nimue the Blood Queen (Jovovich). But their battle will bring about the end of the world, a fate he desperately tries to turn away.
Hellboy is written by Mike Mignola, Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden, and Aron Coleite, and serves as a reboot to Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy film series.
Gleeson, who recently appeared in Darren Aranofsky’s mother! and Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky, is represented by Paradigm in the U.S. and The Agency in Ireland.
Hellboy is currently without a release date, but is expected late 2018/early 2019.
