Aisha Tyler has released the trailer for her feature directorial debut, Axis, written by and starring Irish actor Emmett Hughes.
Hughes plays Tristan Blake. a successful actor who nearly destroyed his life through punishing addiction, he has gotten sober, salvaged his relationship and career, mended his connections with family, and is trying with all his might to reclaim his life. On the day he is set to star in a career-changing blockbuster, he drives through Los Angeles and confronts a series of devastating events that threaten his sobriety, his loved ones, and possibly his life.
Much like the Tom Hardy-starring Locke, the action in Axis all takes place in a car, but instead of a motorway in England it will be through the greater Los Anageles area. Due to the nature of the film all of the supporting cast provide voices only. This cast includes Irish stars Ciarán Hinds, Paula Malcomson, Caroline Morahan, Bronagh Waugh, and Fionn William O’Brien, as well as Emily Bett Rickards (Arrow), Sam Rockwell (Moon), Kirsten Vangsness (Criminal Minds), Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds), Jerry Ferrara (Entourage), and Amber Nash (Archer), as well as Tyler herself.
Tyler is no stranger to working with Irish talent, having directed a short film called Ar Scáth le Chéile in Galway in 2015. This short which also stars Hughes, screened at the Newport Beach International Film Festival and Galway Film Fleadh. Axis had its world premiere at the Sarasota Film Festival, and will play at the Newport Beach International Film Festival at the end of the month.
