#IrishFilm: Gerard Walsh’s independent feature South to hit Irish cinemas on November 25th

Irish independent feature South, from writer/director Gerard Walsh, will receive a theatrical release in selected Irish cinemas on November 25th. The film, which premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh, is Walsh’s second feature and was recently award Best Feature at the Fingal Film Festival.

South tells the story of Tom, a young man struggling with the recent death of his father. After finding a note from his estranged mother he decides to hit the road and try to find her. Throughout this journey Tom also tries to overcome his crippling stage fright as a musician. Along his journey he meets Jess, a free-spirited young woman that captivates his mind and heart.

Red Rock actor Darragh O’Toole stars as Tom, with support from Emily Lamey (Every Breaking Wave), veteran screen star Joe Rooney (Monged, Father Ted), and Andie McCaffrey Byrne (A Day Like Today, Love/Hate).  Matthew Toman of Bankhouse Productions produces, with cinematography from Kevin Treacy (The Death of a Projectionist). The film features original music by Sean Riddick.

Walsh’s debut A Day Like Today marked him out as one to watch, and South enforces the belief that this is a director with a fine future ahead of him. Follow the film on Facebook for the latest updates.
