Last night the International Press Academy held their 19th Satellite Awards is an award ceremony honouring the year’s outstanding performers, films, and television shows. The Irish animation Song of the Sea won Best Animated Picture at the ceremony, while Annie Atkins’ work on The Grand Budapest Hotel helped lead that film to Best Art Direction and Production Design.
The Tomm Moore directed, Cartoon Saloon produced, Song of the Sea has already received a Best Animated Feature nomination at this year’s Oscars, as well as 7 nominations at the Annies, and a nomination for the Cesar Awards in France.
Boyhood director Richard Linklater won Best Director, with Patricia Arquette winning Best Supporting Actress for the film. Birdman won Best Picture, with Michael Keaton honoured for his leading role in the film. Academy Awards favourites Julianne Moore and J.K. Simmons won Best Actress and Supporting Actor for their respective roles in Still Alice and Whiplash. Dan Gilroy won Best Original Screenplay for Nightcrawler, with Graham Moore’s work on The Imitation Game winning Best Adapted Screenplay.
This win for Song of the Sea bodes well for its chances in the Academy Awards on Sunday.
