Last night, in Park City, Utah, John Carney’s Sing Street had its world premiere. And it is safe to say that audiences really connected with the Once director latest film.
The film drew acclaim from a large number of highly respected journalists and critics, who praised the film for its energy, music, and performances.

Sing Street takes audiences back to 1980s Dublin where an economic recession forces Conor out of his comfortable private school and into survival mode at the inner-city public school where the kids are rough and the teachers are rougher. He finds a glimmer of hope in the mysterious and über-cool Raphina, and with the aim of winning her heart he invites her to star in his band’s music videos. She agrees, and now Conor must deliver what he’s promised – calling himself “Cosmo” and immersing himself in the vibrant rock music trends of the ‘80s, he forms a band with a few lads, and the group pours their hearts into writing lyrics and shooting videos.
The film stars Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Lucy Boynton, Jack Reynor (Glassland), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Orphan Black) and Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones). Producers on the film were Martina Niland, Anthony Bregman, Paul Trijbits, Christian Grass and John Carney and the production companies were Cosmo Films, Likely Story and Filmwave.
Sing Street will open the Audi Dublin International Film Festival on February 18th and will be released in Irish cinemas on March 18th.
