#IrishFilm: Richie Smyth’s The Siege of Jadotville is now available on Netflix globally

Following a limited cinematic release The Siege of Jadotville, Netflix’s first Irish Original, launches globally on Netflix today (October 7th).  Over 83 Million Netflix members worldwide will get the opportunity to see the gripping true Irish story of incredible bravery against impossible odds, a story that has been largely unknown until now.

Directed by Richie Smyth and written by Kevin Brodbin, The Siege of Jadotville is a gripping true story of incredible bravery against impossible odds, as it thrillingly depicts the 1961 siege of a 150-strong Irish UN battalion under Commander Patrick Quinlan (Jamie Dornan) by 3,000 Congolese troops led by French and Belgian mercenaries working for mining companies.

The film features a stellar line-up of Irish and international talent including Dornan, Guillaume Canet, Sam Keeley, Charlie Kelly, Conor MacNeill, Michael McElhatton, Mike Noble, Jason O’Mara, Fionn O’Shea, Mikael Persbrandt, Conor Quinlan (grandson of Commandant Pat Quinlan), Ronan Raftery, Emmanuelle Seigner, and Mark Strong.

The Siege of Jadotville is based on the novel ‘The Siege at Jadotville: The Irish Army’s Forgotten Battle‘ by Declan Power. It is produced by Alan Moloney (Brooklyn, Albert Nobbs, Byzantium) for Parallel Films as well as Richie Smyth and Kevin Brodbin, with financing coming from Bord Scannan na hEireann/the Irish Film Board.
