Irish Film: A24 picks up US distribution for Lenny Abrahamson's Room

More great news for fans of Irish film as A24 has picked up the US distribution rights for acclaimed Irish director Lenny Abrahamson adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s best-selling novel Room.

The story is told from the perspective of a five-year-old boy, Jack, who is being held captive in a small room along with his mother. Short Term 12 star Brie Larson will play the main character of Ma.

Abrahamson, who recently brought us the eclectic and wonderful Frank, is best known as the creative force behind some of the best Irish movies of the last 10 years in Garage and What Richard Did. He is working from a script penned by the author herself.

Element Pictures are helping finance the film with Ed Guiney attached as producer and Andrew Lowe as executive producer . Tessa Ross, Sue Bruce Smith and Rose Garnett will executive produce for Film4 who are developing the film with support from Bord Scannán na hÉireann/Irish Film Board.

Frank is out in Irish cinemas now, with Room entering production shortly for a 2015 release.
