Irish Film: Patrick's Day awarded Screen Director’s Guild Finders Series Award

The Screen Directors Guild of Ireland have bestowed a great honour on Terry McMahon’s feature Patrick’s Day, with the film awarded the Screen Director’s Guild Finders Series Award.

This award, which is given in conjunction with the Directors Guild of America, will see Patrick’s Day screened on October 10, 2014 in the prestigious DGA Theatre on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. The screening will be attended American distributors, filmmakers, and key industry personnel, with the aim of securing a US distribution deal for the film.

Patrick’s Day, which recently won Best Irish Feature at the Galway Film Fleadh (sharing with Gerard Barrett’s Glassland), follows a young man with mental health issues who becomes intimate with a suicidal air hostess , only for his obsessive mother to enlist a dysfunctional cop to separate them.

The film stars New Zealander Kerry Fox (Shallow Grave, Sex & Violence, An Angel at My Table), Waterford actor Moe Dunford (Vikings, Raw, The Tudors) in his first major film role, Catherine Walker (Dark Touch, Leap Year, Critical), and veteran English actor Philip Jackson (My Week with Marilyn, Little Voice, Poirot).

Now in its ninth year the Finders Series Award has highlighted a host of great Irish cinema to international audiences, including John Butler’s The Stag, Tomm Moore’s The Secret of Kells, Frank Berry’s Ballymun Lullaby, Ian Power’s The Runway, and Ken Wadrop’s beautiful His & Hers.

Patrick’s Day does not currently have an Irish cinematic release date, but expect it to be out later this year.
