Critically acclaimed feature films Patrick’s Day and I Used To Live Here will screen in Bundoran Cineplex as part of a three-day mental health awareness event in Donegal this week.
The event which kicks off today (October 8th) runs until Saturday, October 10th , and will include activities like fun runs, workshops, meditations and free film screenings. The event coincides with World Mental Health Day this Saturday.
Connect Mental Health was founded in January 2015 to help raise awareness of mental health issues in South Donegal. The event aims to empower the local community with practical tools and advice on how to improve and maintain their mental health.
Audiences will get a chance to see Terry McMahon’s IFTA-winning feature Patrick’s Day tonight. The film follows Patrick, a warm, open, twenty-six year old virgin schizophrenic. When he becomes intimate with a suicidal flight attendant his obsessive mother enlists a dysfunctional detective to separate them.
I Used to Live Here, directed by Frank Berry will screen tomorrow night. In this film we see Amy, a 13-year-old trying to cope with the death of her mother and the reappearance of her father’s ex-girlfriend, who experiences the temptation of suicide after witnessing the outpouring of love for a local suicide victim. The film takes a fictional look at how the idea of suicide can spread in communities, particularly among young people.
