Elliot Cowan, Ana Ularu and Franka Potente have been cast in [REC] co-director Jaume Balaguero’s supernatural thriller Muse, which is a co-production between Ireland’s Fantastic Films and Spain’s Filmax Entertainment.

The film, which was written by Balaguero, Fernando Navarro and Jose Carlos Somoza, sees a literature professor suffering from a recurring nightmare in which a woman is brutally murdered by a strange ritual. When that nightmare becomes real he embarks on a quest to discover the origin of the dream.

Cowan, Ularu, and Potente join Charlotte Vega, Christopher Lloyd, Leonor Watling, and Joanne Whalley in the cast of Muse. Other co-producers include Castelao Pictures in Spain, Frakas Productions in Belgium, and The Jokers Films in France.

Talking about the film Balaguero said:

The combination of the supernatural, seduction, macabre rituals, and love is an explosive one and has all the elements required to make a truly terrifying movie.

Ivan Diaz, Filmax International sales head, who is shopping the film at the American Film Market (AFM), added:

Muse’s mix of psychological horror and the supernatural make it a perfect genre film for theatrical release; however, it also has great potential for TV.
