Irish Abroad: Jack Reynor wins acting award at Sundance

The 2015 Sundance Film Festival came to an end last night with its annual award ceremony. Irish actor Jack Reynor picked up the World Cinema Special Jury Prize for Acting award for his portrayal of a young man struggling with his mother’s alcohol addiction in Gerard Barrett’s Glassland.

The Michael Fassbender starring, Robbie Ryan lensed,  Slow West picked up the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize – Dramatic, beating out Glassland, which was featured at Sundance in the same competition segment.

The big winner was Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s Me and Earl and the Dying Girl which won both the U.S. Grand Jury Prize -Dramatic and the U.S. Dramatic Audience Award. Last year the Oscar nominated Whiplash achieved the same feat so we can expect big things from that film later this year.

Speaking on the award Reynor commented “I’m absolutely thrilled to have been considered and to have won a prize at Sundance this year. It’s definitely a reflection of the work of everybody who was part of the film and I’m incredibly proud to have worked with all of them.”

Glassland will be released in Ireland on April 17th.
