Dogtooth director Yorgos Lanthimos is currently shooting his latest film The Lobster at locations around Ireland, which today has announced additional casting for the film.
The latest actors to join the production are Hollywood heavyweight John C. Reilly, Ugly Betty‘s Ashley Jensen, The World’s End‘s Michael Smiley, and young English star Jessica Barden. The four join the already star-studded lineup of Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, Ben Whishaw, Léa Seydoux, Ariane Labed, Angeliki Papoulia, and Olivia Colman.
The film is an unconventional love story which follows a desperate man who breaks with the rules of the dystopian The City where single people are arrested and obliged to find a matching mate in 45 days at The Hotel. If they fail, they are transformed into an animal of their choosing and released into The Woods.
The film marks Lanthimos English-language debut, which the director has also co-written with longtime collaborator Efthimis Filippou. Producers are Lanthimos, Lee Magiday, Ed Guiney and Ceci Dempsey, with Element’s Andrew Lowe and Film4’s Tessa Ross and Sam Lavender as exec producers.
The Lobster is currently set for an unspecified 2015 release.
